Join Kelly Yount and learn how to share and practice Prenatal Yoga! In this workshop, Kelly will guide a full prenatal sequence and outline the benefits, best practices, contraindications, and foundation of Prenatal Yoga. Qualifies for 3.5 hours of Continuing Education!!!

Prenatal Yoga is a practice meant not only for soon to be mom’s to work out physical kinks and encourage relaxation; it also has the potential to deepen mom’s connection to her baby. Chair Yoga Workshop for Yoga Teachers

October 5, Saturday 2:00 – 5:30 p.m.

  • Are you a yoga teacher in search of new modalities to assist your students?
  • Have you thought of using a chair to add intensity to the practice? (Yes, that’s correct: to make some poses more challenging than what they’d be on the mat).
  • Have you thought of designing your own, self-standing chair yoga program?
  • Would you like to empower and help people to practice wherever they are, in the office or at home, when they cannot afford to travel to a studio?

If you answered ‘yes’ to any of the above questions, then you might want to consider this event.

We are providing you with the opportunity to learn how to teach chair yoga, and achieve all of the above, and more! Join us for a fun and engaging weekend to earn your chair yoga certification.

Among the topics covered, are:

  • How to chose the right poses when addressing a specific problem;
  • How to adapt conventional poses and flow sequences, from mat to chair;
  • How to use additional props to create new variations, when the chair alone is not enough;
  • How to create a complete practice inclusive of asana, pranayama, and mediation that would fit any time budget, and getting down on a mat is not feasible.

Practice hands on teaching chair yoga.

COMMUNING ACROSS THE VEIL

Saturday, October 19 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

When someone close to you dies, the relationship with that person undergoes a seismic shift. Processing and navigating the change is often confusing, frightening and takes inordinate amounts of energy, all of which is a natural response to loss and grief. We may be surprised to discover a “bequest” of mixed emotions over questions we or they didn’t ask, issues we or they didn’t seek to resolve or gratitude we or they didn’t express. We may wonder what parts of the relationship to let go of and what to hold on to, even years later. We may assume that, because they are no longer physically present, the opportunity for healing or thanking is lost.

But what if the relationship is just changed, not ended? Is it possible to engage with a deceased person in an evolving relationship that nurtures growth, love, forgiveness and understanding?

Join Susan Patterson, Conscious Dying Coach, in an exploration of these questions in a supportive and grounded environment. Over the course of 3 hours, we will explore ways in which we can remain in relationship with deceased ones for both healing and gratification. Recognizing both the gifts and the grievances that a loved one has left us, we will use sacred imagination to acknowledge and address those items and discern if sustaining a relationship may help us to grow emotionally and spiritually. We will practice ways to prepare both mind and spirit to lovingly engage with people who have died, share experiences and thoughts with each other, and learn techniques for ongoing use. Meditation, artwork, sacred imagination and silence will guide our time together.

Investment – $59

After retiring from 35 years as a professional fundraiser for non-profit organizations, Susan trained for a career in personal coaching, specifically to encourage and support people as they confront mortality. Her particular interest is in working with individuals to discern the most meaningful actions they want to take, using contemplation of their own death as a tool to focus that exploration. Her training includes working with clients of all or no faith traditions. She offers a range of services through her company, Gifts From the End. www.giftsfromtheend.net

Here is more information on Yin Yoga and on Sound Bath

Why Yin? “Most forms of yoga today are dynamic, active practices designed to work only half of our body, the muscular half, the ‘yang’ tissues. Yin Yoga allows us to work the other half, the deeper ‘yin’ tissues of our ligaments, joints, deep fascial networks and even our bones. All of our tissues are important and need to be exercised so that we can achieve optimal health and vitality.” Bernie Clark.

Everything in existence is a combination of the opposing but complementary facets of yin and yang. Yang is described as active, hot, rapid, dense, gross, and yin is passive, cool, slow, light and subtle.

Our lifestyles here in the west can be described as generally very yang focused – we are encouraged to be active, focused on effort, focused on production, on doing and achieving. However, in order to live balanced, healthy and truly productive lives, we need to be sure to incorporate yin energy into our lives. One good way to do this is to practice yin yoga.

In yin yoga we are able to go deep into our bodies and into minds. We hold poses – often a passive stretch – for a longer time, working beyond muscles so that we experience a therapeutic effect on our deep connective tissue and fascia. Because this is where we store a lot of our ‘stuff’, we find that this practice can offer us deep release – physically, mentally and emotionally. While in the poses, we practice with the mind – yin is sometimes referred to as meditative yoga. We use the poses to get into the body and not the other way around. When we come out of a yin pose, we pause to notice what’s happening in the body. As we practice more and more, we become attuned to the subtleties of the body. Yin is not restorative or gentle yoga. Sometimes, because we’re going deep, the poses can be uncomfortable. But when we embrace this discomfort as an indication of where our work lies, physically and mentally, we find we are able to go even deeper and let even more go. Following a practice of yin with a practice of Yoga Nidra – yogic sleep – allows the body to relax as if it are asleep – even though you are still awake. This allows your body to assimilate all the work and release you’ve done during the session. It also allows your nervous system to recalibrate for a time. And at the end of class you will feel wonderful. Some students say: this feels like I’ve just gotten a massage or this feels like medicine for my body, or I feel like I’m on could 9! Ultimately, these students have come back to themselves and back to balance and these are feelings that everyone needs to feel in their day to day, not just after a trip to be spa!

Sound Bath Description

Sound baths help to move the body and mind from a place of imbalance to one of balance. Using the vibrational resonance and frequency of crystal singing bowls and other instruments, a sound bath facilitates shifts in the body’s brainwave state, enabling participants to reach deep meditative states, and promotes deep levels of physical and mental relaxation. In this relaxed state, the body’s stress response shuts off and the relaxation response engages, resulting in the lowering of the heart rate and blood pressure, and activation of the body’s natural healing process.

Participants in sound baths often experience:

  • Feeling calmer
  • Reduced feelings of stress, anxiety, and depression
  • A release of tension
  • Deep relaxation
  • Improved mood
  • Better sleep
  • Stronger mind-body connection

Participants should wear warm, loose-fitting clothing, avoid heavy meals beforehand, and come well-hydrated for optimal results. As the body’s core temperature can drop during a sound bath, a blanket may also be beneficial.

Please note that sound baths are not recommended for people with pacemakers, artificial heart valves, or those with pumps, devices, or metal in the body.
